Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap for February 27, 2024

The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s February 27, 2024, Board Meeting. Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Zack Scrivner (District 2), Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3), Chairman David Couch (District 4), and Supervisor Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights: 

  • Item No. 4 AM session:
  • The Board proclaimed March 2024 as Social Week Appreciation Month in Kern County.
  • Item No. 5 AM session:
  • The Board proclaimed March 8 – 10, 2024 as Children of the American Revolution Weekend in Kern County.
  • Item No. 10 AM session:
  • The Board presented a certificate of recognition in honor of Kern County Employee Appreciation Week to honor the outstanding work of our nearly 8,000 employees.
  • Item No. 15 AM session:
  • The Board voted to adopt the Kern County Mental Health Services Act Annual Update Plan for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 and Revenue and Expenditure Report for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 and approve submission to Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission and Department of Health Care Services.
  • Item No. 20 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with Marley’s Mutts to provide therapy sessions for Behavioral Health and Recovery Services clients utilizing service animals.
  • Items No. 24 – 25 AM session:
  • Item No. 33 AM session:
  • The Board approved the Kern County Library applying for and accepting the California State Library’s Lunch at the Library Grant to support Lunch at the Library 2024 summer meals in support of feeding our community’s vulnerable children while they’re out of school.
  • Item No. 34 AM session:
  • The Board approved the Kern County Probation Department accepting a grant agreement from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety for the Probation DUI Offender Project, which will mitigate the negative impact of adult repeat felony DUI probationers within our community.
  • Item No. 37 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the California Department of Public Health Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health Division for the continuation of the California Home Visiting program, Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting program, and Evidence-Based Home Visiting program through June of 2028.
  • Items No. 6 – 10 PM session:
  • The Board held a series of protest hearings for cost incurred for various nuisance abatement work throughout unincorporated Kern County.
  • This effort supports the enhancement of quality-of-life for Kern County residents.
  • Item No. 23 PM session:
  • The Board voted to extend their agreement with The Open Door Network for litter abatement along Kern County roadways and properties.
  • Item No. 24 PM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the City of Bakersfield and Bakersfield-Kern Regional Homeless Collaborative for the Homeless Housing Assistance and Prevention Program Round 5 Regionally Coordinated Action Plan through October of 2028.
  • Item No. 25 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $500 to Keep Bakersfield Beautiful to support the Great American Clean Up, $500 to the Shafter High Athletics Booster Club, $2,500 to Kern Health Systems to support the Live Better program, and $500 to the Farmworkers Institute of Education and Leadership Development to support the annual Cesar Chavez breakfast.
  • Item No. 26 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $1,000 to the National Society Children of the American Revolution to support leadership and education, $1,000 to the Kern County Museum to help celebrate the history and culture of Kern County, and $500 to the Farmworkers Institute of Education and Leadership Development to support the workforce development and training.
  • Items No. 27 – 28 PM session:
  • The Board heard a presentation on the plans, specifications, and notice to contractors for the Boron Park Skatepark and Rosamond Park Improvements.
